Around Slovenia 800 is a compact version of the lengthy 1300 km cycling route created for an “Ultimate Ironman” type of race (Race Around Slovenia) which takes place every year. AS 800 is as close as you can get to the original full length tour.

Climbing Alpine foothills and mountains that Slovenia throws in front of you, but also descending down to the Adriatic coastline – and everything in between – and that’s what the Alpe-Adria means in essence. To make everything more doable and rider friendly, we’ve simply stripped out a few areas from the original 1300 km tour. Nevertheless, It’s still and endurance experience as you will on average notch-up more than 100 km a day, over 7 consecutive days.

DAY 01

DistanceDistance: 112,1 km
DistanceElevation: 786 m

Kamnik marks the starting point, a small city close to Ljubljana (capital city of Slovenia), yet far enough to avoid its hectic and heavy traffic. AS800 is an endurance tour and 800 km is the 7-day goal – so there’s no time for a slow start. On day 1 you’ll get through 116 km to get to Olimje, SPA centre in the heart of Slovenia. There’s nothing like a soothing SPA visit after riding along the open road.

DAY 02

DistanceDistance: 103,2 km
DistanceElevation: 781 m

On day 2 you’ll head south to the city of Metlika. 120 kilometres of diverse trail with one decent climb. In Metlika, what better way to end the day with a delicious dinner.

DAY 03

DistanceDistance: 141,3 km
DistanceElevation: 1022 m

Time to go west. The aim for day 3 is to reach Postojna, a city half way between Ljubljana and the coast famous for its well-known cave (Postojna cave) which we can also visit. On day 3 you’ll ride 140 km which makes it the longest if not the toughest day of your journey.

DAY 04

DistanceDistance: 125,4 km
DistanceElevation: 875 m

We can now ease up a little following a tough previous day with a ride slightly more than 100 km – downhill all the way. You’ll finish your ride at the delightful Adriatic coastal town of Piran.

DAY 05

DistanceDistance: 120,4 km
DistanceElevation: 765 m

Piran is without doubt the most charming Slovenian coastal town. Petite and cute! Pop over to the piazza for a morning coffee – a must for every visitor. The plan for day 5 is simple. Go north to Nova Gorica, a city perched on the Italian border. Why not extend your tour with a few kilometres and visit its sister city Gorizia on the Italian side and enjoy a real Italian espresso.

DAY 06

DistanceDistance: 116,7 km
DistanceElevation: 1647 m

It’s time to say goodbye to the warmer climate typical for the region close to the Adriatic Sea and head towards the mountains. On day 6 you’ll ride 120 km, across the extremely scenic Vršič mountain pass and descend to Kranjska Gora – a ski resort in the winter, but equally an excellent hub for mountaineering and many other outdoor activities throughout the year.

DAY 07

DistanceDistance: 90,3 km
DistanceElevation: 224 m

This is the last day of the journey. Around Slovenia 800 is a round trip so you’ll ride back to the east returning to the city of Kamnik where your riding tour kicked-off 6 days earlier. As we’d like to make the final day a bit easier for you – 90 km should do nicely!

Our adventure starts and ends in Kamnik near Ljubljana.

Ljubljana is surrounded with 4 international airports in maximum two and a half hour distance (Ljubljana, Venice, Trieste, Klagenfurt). We can arrange airport shuttles from all 4 airports.

From Austria to Kamnik you either take Loibl (Ljubelj) pass or Karavanke tunnel and head for Ljubljana. In Kranj take the exit and then follow the signs for Kamnik. It is about 1,5h drive, altogether.

From Italy to Kamnik head toward Trieste, cross the border to Slovenia and continue toward Ljubljana and then further to Kranj. Take the exit and follow the signs for Kamnik. It shouldn’t take you more than 2,5h from Venice airport.

From Ljubljana airport head toward Ljubljana and in Mengeš turn toward Kamnik. Less than 30 min drive.

  • The minimum number of people required to run the trip varies between 4 and 8 per trip, depending on the tour.
  • In a single group there’ll be a maximum of 10 people. But there can be more than 1 group.
  • We will form groups according to individuals desires, fitness and also bikes
  • Every evening there will be briefing session organized where guide(s) will present next day tour profile (altitude profile, length, difficulty…). There’s is always an option to avoid difficult route sections or change group if there will be more than one. There are many variations of each day tour.
  • Meeting instructions and final trip arrangements will be sent to you two weeks prior to your tour start date.
